  • feed on the Word

    It’s said “you can’t walk forward looking back” and while this is true I can’t help but look over my shoulder at how I used to live.

    Deceit; envy; lying and foul language was something which held me back for years as a young adult. It caused all kinds of drama and mistrust. Romans 8:5

    So I can say with certainty that getting rid of this type of living gave room for me to experience more goodness.

    My motivation is to not go back in darkness but live in the light of God’s living Word ~ which abides forever. 1 Peter 1:23

    When His Word at first was preached to me and it begin to transform my understanding, reaching me where nothing else could. It sounded like a sermon on Grace. <Video link>

    So reading the Word of God eventually became a daily habit.

    At first I’d read it to try and find out what I needed to do or what it was saying about me.

    Then I realized I was going about it all wrong, it was a love story about Him and all that He has done to save us. John 3:16-17

    It was His Word that called me to truth and clean living.

    To letting go of bitterness and shame.

    No more looking to be better then others but instead praying for them, as He did. John 17:20

    No looking for acceptance in others because Jesus accepted me, even with all my imperfections He became my new habit.

    His Word fed my soul and it changed my thinking.

    Every misplaced longing for love and acceptance was met by His Word. He showed me what it means to have loyalty and serve others as He did. He changed me, it was Him working out my salvation in me. Eph 2:10

    And then He served me the best news; I was forgiven and loved forever.

    He has taught me to stay close and feed on His Word daily.

    It grows you spiritually strong and when you feed on the Word of God ~ you will find out how good God really is!

  • John 17:17

    In this passage Jesus is speaking to the Heavenly Father in prayer,

    “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.”

    Sanctify means to set them apart, He speaks of the mission that He was sent to do, to give the Word. He requested that God the Father would protect those who receive the word and that they would not be overcome by the evil in the world.

    And then He went on to complete the mission, fulfilling the Word completely.

    This is the testimony of Jesus, the gospel message gone out to all the world, every nation; tongue and tribe.

    To those who believe in His word, they are able to attain His salvation in truth.

    Salvation in Jesus the son of God as our Savior, means we know we need to be cleansed from our own sinfulness.

    Psalms 119:9 ask the question how can one be cleansed?

    The answer: take heed according to the Word of God.

    Righteousness is everlasting because God’s law is truth and because Jesus was the fulfillment of it. He is truth.

    The Word is Holy forever.

    Yes, Lord’s beauty is in the grace He abounds toward us however it’s because of His Word that there is grace.

    Remember in John 17, when Jesus was asking the Father to protect those who heed the word. That’s grace, knowing we would need something and we didn’t ask for it.

    In Psalms 119: v. 142 – v. 151 – v. 152 His truth is the law that doesn’t condemn us to death, but saves us from sin.

    The truth of His Word sets us free. The testimony of His way, is not something new, it has always been, even before the foundations of the World.

    So the Word of God is forever, eternally.

    Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away. Luke 21:33

    Isaiah 40:8 The Word is a Rock – This Rock is Jesus, the living Word of God who stands forever.

    Closing thought:

    From the beginning to end we need to consider the whole matter which was written for our benefit. In the Word is life, and more abundantly, those who truly accept the righteousness of Christ Jesus will give serious consideration to the Word of God, because it works to cleanse us, to give us light to walk and to show us the way to a life everlasting, this is what it means to be set apart from this world that lives and dies in darkness.

    These are the books that I have been reading and want to encourage you to also read.

    You may be asking “what trumpet?”

    You can look up the verses in these books which I have linked so you can understand what I am referring to.

    • Psalms 81 God’s goodness- He rescues and saves.
    • Jeremiah 4 a loud warning to repent, destruction is coming.
    • 1 Corinthians 14 knowing the truth and sharing it for God.
    • 1 Corinthians 15 the last trumpet will be one that calls those who accept the Lord Jesus Christ and keep His commands.
    • Revelations 1 tells us that the trumpet is a voice from Heaven.
    • Revelations 4 The voice of the Lord in Heaven.

    Those who are called God’s children are to use their voices to share what God has done, through the saving grace of Jesus Christ the Son of God Lord and Savior.

    We are to use our voice (trumpets) to tell others about the gift of Salvation in Christ Jesus. We are told to warn others of the destruction coming to those outside of God’s will, they will have no protection.

    Serving yourself, means no protection.

    There is no peace to those who deny or refuse to give their lives to Christ. Instead there is swords of strife. This means God’s Word is like a sword to your conscious.

    To live for Christ is to give Him first place in our hearts. To accept that we are sinners in need of a perfect Savior, Christ Jesus the Lord and son of God.

    All of this is in the word of God.

    The Word is God and He is telling us that the great controversy at hand – the war between good and evil is coming to an end.

    A last “trumpet” is being sounded.

    We must pay attention – by reading His word He will prepare us for when the last trumpet does sound, this is when He will call the dead in Christ to be raised and all of those who are waiting on the Lords return, will be caught up with Him made incorruptible.

    And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

    What is something you are devoted to?

    What are the benefits of you being devoted to it?

    It would be nice to read your first thoughts about each question asked, but once you finish this short post you may have a new answer. But your always welcomed to leave me a comment.

    Here’s my answers to these questions. My life was wrapped up as a parent to two boys and a girl, who are now young adults. Devoted to their needs. It was my first ministry and mission to give them a home that loved Jesus.

    And now that they are grown it became obvious that I had a void that needed filling. I remember telling the family one evening jokingly, “I’m going to write a devotional book and call it “cooking with God- recipes for a healthy relationship with God.” They all said “do it.”

    Then I started praying more purposely about it, and one night after prayer I was impressed to look up in the scripture what it means to be devoted. This is when I came across Leviticus 27:28 and here’s what became obvious to me, if you devote something totally to God’s service, you are not allowed to redeem it or buy it back. Whoever or whatever it is belongs to God and is most holy; nothing can be substituted for it. Never to be sold or traded, because it is holy. So if I was going to do this devotional book, I knew it would not become a published book for sell, but a lifestyle.

    I am still learning how to be devoted to His call, it’s a daily surrender in the process of trial and error. I really like to ask Him to help me to abide in Him and I love when He gives me a task to do because it feeds my soul. I have a thirst for the knowledge of His word and I thank Him for filling my days now with opportunities to minister and give His word to those who are seeking. His truths set us free, and to live devoted to Him is to be set free from guilt and shame.

    Here’s something I also learned while seeking for directions.

    “Our Father who is in Heaven, HOLY is your name.”

    Think on this..if His name is Holy, and He tells us that He makes things Holy that are devoted to Him, then His name must also mean this:

    “Our Father who is in Heaven, DEVOTED is your name.”

    All through the Word of God – He is totally devoted to us, and He longs to have us for Himself.

    Today, He devotedly stands at the door of your heart knocking, let Him come in. He will make all things work together for your good.
